Connect and collaborate
One of the most effective ways to advance science is to do it collectively, by working together and sharing ideas across organisations and communities. RIC-KI connects researchers and scientists across the world for open collaboration by providing an environment that motivates and develops the relationships that enable scientists to collaborate.
“When people are connected in research, much more can be achieved. It is more important than ever before that researchers across health and social care work collaboratively to tackle the ever-changing challenges for patients and the public.”
Professor Lucy Chappell, Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and Chief Executive Officer for the National Institute for Health Research
Researchers have many excellent ideas but it is not possible to develop them all alone, so some fantastic ideas never come to fruition whether due to a lack of time, specific expertise or access to facilities. RIC-KI is built on a willingness to openly share ideas and collaborate with likeminded researchers by actively connecting and inviting them into each other’s endeavours.
RIC-KI inspires researchers to develop their best ideas together, for mutual benefit, greater gain and output. This approach creates opportunities that would not otherwise occur, enabling research to go further and faster.
How does RIC-KI work?
The RIC-KI website details a range of innovative research ideas that Idea Inventors wish to share with the worldwide scientific community as potential collaborative research projects, and how they wish to collaborate. Potential collaborators then complete an expression of interest form and the RIC-KI support team connect both parties.
Currently RIC-KI features research ideas related to: physical activity, weight management and dietary behaviours, health and wellbeing, and sport. Other topics may be added in due course.
RIC-KI is hosted by Loughborough University, UK. Please refer to our FAQs and terms and conditions for further details and conditions of use.
Our partners
We are delighted to launch the RIC-KI platform with Ideas from researchers at a range of institutions, including:
- University of Birmingham
- University of Edinburgh
- Loughborough University
- Northumbria University
- University of Southern Denmark
- Swansea University
We are pleased to announce that the International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity (ISBNPA) supports RIC-KI.
The RIC-KI team
RIC-KI is led by Professor Amanda Daley, Professor of Behavioural Medicine and Director of the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University.
Amanda is supported by Julie Isherwood and Gemma Ladley who manage the day-to-day running and promotion of the platform and process ideas and expressions of interest.
